Matthew 12:22-37 // Two Kingdoms - Your Choice
This powerful message from Matthew 12:22-37 confronts us with an unavoidable reality: we cannot remain neutral in the spiritual battle between God's kingdom and Satan's domain. When Jesus healed a demon-possessed man who was both blind and mute, the crowds wondered if He might be the promised Messiah, the Son of David. Yet the religious leaders attributed His miraculous power to Satan himself, revealing the darkness in their own hearts. Jesus responds with penetrating logic: a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, so why would Satan cast out his own demons? The deeper truth emerges—there are only two kingdoms, and we must choose which one we belong to. We're either gathering with Christ or scattering abroad; we're either producing good fruit from a transformed heart or bad fruit from an unchanged one. What makes this passage so urgent is Jesus' warning about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit—the unforgivable sin of persistently rejecting God's conviction and attributing His work to evil. Yet woven throughout this sobering warning is incredible grace: every other sin and blasphemy can be forgiven. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, reveals Christ's righteousness, and warns us of judgment, giving us opportunity after opportunity to surrender. The question pressing on our hearts today is simple but eternal: which kingdom have we chosen, and what fruit is our life producing?
