Psalm 133-135 - Unity Amongst The Body!

In these final Songs of Ascent, we encounter a profound meditation on unity and worship that speaks directly to our fractured world. Psalm 133 opens with a powerful declaration about the goodness and pleasantness of dwelling together in unity—not just coexistence, but true oneness of heart and mind. The imagery is striking: precious oil flowing down Aaron's beard, saturating his garments with fragrance, and the dew of Mount Hermon descending on Mount Zion. These aren't random metaphors but intentional pictures of God's anointing and blessing. When we live in unity, we become a fragrance in a world that desperately needs to smell the presence of Christ. The passage reminds us that unity isn't natural—it's supernatural. It requires us to endeavor, to fight for it, to sometimes forfeit our own rights for the sake of others. The early church understood this, devoting themselves to the apostles' doctrine, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. They had all things in common because they recognized something greater than themselves. The reward? God commands His blessing where there is unity—life forevermore. This isn't about temporary peace but eternal significance, reminding us that we're not living for the here and now but for what awaits us in eternity.
