Ramon
Associate Pastor
Ramon was born and raised in the Belen area and graduated from BHS in 1970. He attended Western New Mexico University in Silver City where he met his wife Betty and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and English. While attending WNMU, through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, he was born again. He recalls when the young man ministering to him said, “Jesus died for you.” Ramon replied, “How could Jesus have died for me, I wasn’t even born back then.” The young man’s quick response from Romans 8:5 settled the confusion. “For God demonstrates his love for us that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Ramon and Betty were married soon after he graduated from college and his first teaching job was in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, where he taught Spanish and English. After three years, they returned to Belen where he taught at Belen Junior High and then at the High School. They raised their three children on a small farm south of town and home schooled them from first grade through high school. They have nine grandchildren, all of which are girls except one. Ramon retired in 2000 after 26 years of teaching. This enabled He and Betty to give their attention to running their Driver’s Ed business.
They have attended CCRGV since the church was in Rio Communities in the late 1990’s and were involved with the local and state home school organizations. For 15 years they helped care for their aging parents and after Betty’s Mom’s passing in 2015, the Lord provided opportunities for them to be more involved at CCRGV. Ramon joined the staff of CCRGV in the spring of 2019, after serving in the church as a deacon. Instead of being considered the new kid on the block, he considers himself to
be the “Viejo” on the block. His part time duties include helping Pastor Sam with benevolence, hospital visits, home visits, counseling, etc. He also helps in leading the
Night of Prayer and the Afterglow meetings.
